Different technologies, one process.
Sereco integrates biological, physicochemical processes, membranes and advanced treatments based on the real characteristics of the effluent and the objective to be achieved.
Technology is an instrument, not the starting point
More processes available, a choice built on a case by case basis.
The technologies are selected and coordinated according to the design data. The presence on this page does not imply that each plant uses all the steps indicated.
Biological reduction of pollutant load.
Continuous or batch configurations, with suspended, attached or membrane-separated biomass.
Separation, precipitation and oxidation.
Processes for components requiring treatment before or alongside the biological stage.
Separating and refining.
Selective barriers used to separate solids, salts and dissolved components according to the objective.
When the effluent requires an additional stage.
Solutions for polishing, selective removal and treatment of streams that are difficult to manage with conventional processes alone.
Management of process streams.
Complementary equipment and sections integrated in the overall configuration of the plant.
A closer look at biological and physico-chemical processes.
Processes are combined according to wastewater characteristics, flow variation and the discharge or reuse objective. The descriptions below outline available treatment families, not a standard layout for every plant.
Activated sludge
Suspended biomass breaks down organic matter in the biological reactor; subsequent sludge separation produces treated effluent and allows return and excess sludge to be managed.
SBR
The sequencing batch reactor alternates filling, aeration or mixing, settling and discharge in timed cycles. Phase duration can be adapted to discontinuous flows and loads.
SMBR
The SMBR process combines a submerged membrane bioreactor with alternating biological phases and continuous discharge. Its configuration depends on the wastewater characteristics.
MBBR
In the MBBR process, biomass grows on moving carriers immersed in the reactor. The approach can be assessed alone or alongside suspended biomass, depending on treatment goals.
Physicochemical
Physico-chemical treatment uses operations such as coagulation, flocculation, flotation and oxidation to separate or transform wastewater components. Reagents and treatment sequence are chosen after characterization.

A distinctive competence, integrated with other processes.
The MBR technology combines biological treatment and separation of biomass by means of membranes. Sereco uses it within configurations defined on the characteristics of the effluent, on the available spaces and on the successive stages of refining.
The sequence starts with the wastewater.
The project does not start from the preference for a technology, but from all the conditions that the plant will face.
Loads and composition
COD, BOD, nitrogen, solids, oils, salinity and other significant components.
Variability and continuity
Qualitative and quantitative fluctuations, peaks and operating conditions.
Effluent destination
Discharge in sewer, surface water, reuse or further refining.
Long-term management
Automation, consumption, maintenance, service and optimization possibilities.
From reception to discharge, each phase prepares the next.
A complete configuration may include different stages. The actual path is defined specifically for each project.

Final objective
Treatment for well water and process water.
Sereco designs primary water treatment plants for municipal and industrial use. The treatment sequence is defined from water analyses and the quality required for the intended use.
Filtration
Sand, carbon or selective resin filters and, where appropriate, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration to separate or reduce unwanted components.
Reverse osmosis
Membrane plants, including multistage systems with CIP cleaning, for the polishing of primary or treated water.
Iron removal
Treatment of well water to reduce iron and, where required, manganese; the process can be combined with oxidation and filtration.
Disinfection
Disinfection complements other treatments where needed. The technology and dosing are chosen according to the water and project objectives.
A complex system must be manageable.
Sereco integrates PLC systems, supervisory control and remote connectivity to monitor plant sections, adjust operating parameters and support process optimisation after commissioning.
